Education: Billy earned a Phi Beta Kappa designation and a BS in Economics from the University of North Carolina, and a J.D. from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he was a Patrick Wilson Scholar.
Professional Life: Billy was an attorney at Cabaniss, Johnston, Gardner, Dumas & O’Neal and an attorney and Shareholder at Maynard, Cooper & Gale until he joined Robinson-Adams Insurance in 1993 to serve as President and General Counsel until Robinson Adams was acquired in 2011 by Arthur J. Gallagher. Billy worked at Gallagher for 9 years, serving as Sr Executive Vice President, Area President, and Regional Senior Living Director, focusing on growing Gallagher’s business by providing insurance brokerage, claims oversight and risk management services to Financial Institutions, Healthcare/Senior Living Providers, Law Firms, Truckers, Manufacturers, Distributors, contractors, other miscellaneous businesses, and National/International/Alternative Risk Accounts.
In November, 2020, Billy joined Tom McGough and the Thompson family to help convert and grow an insured-owned captive insurance agency into a full service brokerage company – Fairway Risk Solutions, LLC.
Billy is licensed in Alabama and many other states for property, casualty, surety bonds, life, health and disability insurance. Billy has been a Governor-appointed member of the Alabama Health Care Issues Task Force and a speaker at seminars regarding the formation of Captives, loss prevention for Senior Living facilities and Law Firms, and insurance for financial institutions in troubled times. Billy works with clients, carriers and outside vendor partners to develop insurance, loss prevention and claims management programs to reduce clients’ total cost of risk.
Personal Life: Billy is married to Trisha Dodson. They have 3 semi-grown children, 2 dogs and a cat.
